Joint study by VDMA, VdS and Messe Essen reveals high burglary rates among businesses and serious doubts about the protection of critical infrastructure
How safe do people in Germany feel? Which risks are businesses concerned about – and how are they responding? The new Security Monitor (SiMon) 2026, presented at Security Essen by the VDMA Security Systems Association, VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH and Messe Essen, provides the answers. The representative study surveyed 4,000 members of the public as well as 1,000 business owners, managing directors and senior executives. One key finding is that the demand for security in Germany has reached a record high. At the same time, the figures show that physical break-ins pose a real threat to businesses in particular, while many respondents believe that critical infrastructure is not adequately protected. Businesses and private individuals are responding by implementing specific security measures and making targeted investments.
