Axis Communications publishes first-ever "Axis Perspectives Report" on the evolving role of intelligent video technology

Axis Communications publishes first-ever "Axis Perspectives Report" on the evolving role of intelligent video technology

Ismaning, February 23, 2026 – Axis Communications, a technology leader in network video, has published the first edition of its Axis Perspectives Report, an annual publication launching this year. Based on Axis' own global research findings, expert opinions, and real-world use cases, the report highlights the evolution of intelligent video technologies and their growing importance across a wide range of industries. It demonstrates how intelligent video technologies contribute to improved security, safety, operational efficiency, and business intelligence.

The report's findings point to a significant shift: while security remains the top priority for organizations using intelligent video technologies, companies are increasingly leveraging these technologies as business drivers to support and enhance their operations. Video technologies are evolving into intelligent analytics tools that not only optimize operational processes but also help drive strategic business development. As a result, organizations gain valuable insights that can increase productivity, reduce costs, and enable large-scale automation.

The Axis Perspectives Report provides a strategic roadmap for how organizations can actively integrate cameras into decision-making processes and achieve measurable results in critical areas of operation. The practical value of this approach is evident across industries. In retail, intelligent video technologies help reduce inventory shrinkage and support data-driven decisions related to store layout planning and workforce deployment. In transportation and logistics, they increase throughput, improve visibility across the supply chain, and minimize sources of error. In manufacturing, cameras optimize machinery and production processes, detect deviations at an early stage, and support both quality control and predictive maintenance initiatives.

One concrete example comes from the BMW Group, where cameras are used to support AI-driven quality inspection (AIQX), enabling precise, automated inspections that improve product quality and operational efficiency.

Key Findings from the Report

  • Greater impact on overall business performance: The use of intelligent video technologies for business intelligence applications, such as gaining insights into customer behavior, space utilization, or performance metrics, has nearly doubled in just one year, rising from 20% to 38%. Furthermore, 42% of surveyed organizations now actively use these technologies to improve operational efficiency, for example by optimizing workflows, streamlining logistics processes, or managing resources in real time (compared with 38% in 2024).
  • Shifting customer priorities: Modernizing infrastructure is now the primary driver for adopting intelligent video technologies among 64% of surveyed end users.
  • Cybersecurity is considered a decisive factor by 44%.
  • Faster cloud adoption: As new use cases continue to emerge and gain importance, cloud deployment in the physical security sector is expected to grow from 27% to 44% over the next two years, representing an increase of 17 percentage points.
  • Growing demand for platform integration: 41% of customers now require unified platforms, further underscoring the critical importance of system integration as a key success factor.

These findings are explored in greater depth throughout the report and provide organizations with the information they need to develop integrated, data-driven solutions capable of creating tangible competitive advantages both today and in the future. To support this journey, the report also introduces a five-stage Intelligent Video Maturity Model that helps organizations transition from passive and reactive systems to proactive, predictive, and ultimately autonomous processes. The model enables business leaders to assess their organization's current maturity level and provides a practical path toward a more effective intelligent video technology strategy.

"We are currently witnessing a fundamental shift in how video technology is perceived within organizations. It is increasingly being viewed as a strategic source of data, insights, and automation across the enterprise," said Tobias Metsch, Regional Director Middle Europe at Axis Communications. "Axis Communications has decades of experience driving innovation in network video, which is why we believe it is important to view the evolution of these technologies and their use cases from a strategic perspective. The Axis Perspectives Report reflects this approach by providing data-driven guidance and expert insights that help business leaders stay ahead of change and turn proven innovations into measurable business outcomes."

The Axis Perspectives Report is a new annual publication from Axis Communications that provides insights, background information, and strategic forecasts on the evolving role of intelligent video technology and its intersections with other intelligent, connected technologies. As the inventor of the world's first network camera, Axis has been a technology leader in network video for three decades and has played a pivotal role in making video-based security an essential component of public safety and modern enterprise infrastructures. Transparent security and reliability: Axis Communications receives IT security label from the BSI for over 160 products

Transparent security and reliability: Axis Communications receives IT security label from the BSI for over 160 products

Ismaning, March 24, 2025 – Axis Communications, technology leader in network video, has received the IT security label of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for currently 167 of its products. This ensures that the labeled products meet the recognized, applicable security requirements of the BSI. They offer transparent cybersecurity, reliability and orientation for customers when making purchasing decisions. Axis is the first manufacturer of video security technology to apply the IT security label across its entire product portfolio, and is also specifically preparing for the EU's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)."

UPDATE April 2026: More than 240 products from the Axis portfolio have now been awarded the IT security certification.

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is the central contact point for cybersecurity in Germany. The agency's goal is to ensure the secure use of information and communication technology in all areas of society by promoting IT security and developing security standards, thereby driving sustainable and secure digitalization. Among other things, the BSI is responsible for implementing the EU NIS-2 Directive in Germany. Additionally, the BSI drives the topic of cybersecurity forward worldwide in cooperation with national and international partners as the central certification body for IT security in Germany.

The BSI's IT security label, which is increasingly gaining international recognition, distinguishes IT products and services that meet recognized security requirements and thus provide significant protection against cyber threats. It is voluntary for manufacturers and creates transparency and orientation for end-users through independent issuance and regular checks during its five-year validity period. The underlying requirements will also be gradually aligned with the mandatory protection goals of the EU CRA starting in 2027 – a recognition with the IT security label therefore represents a good setup for this upcoming regulation.

Axis has received the IT security label for a total of 167 of its products in the category "Smart Consumer Devices". This includes all current Axis products that run on AXIS OS 11 and AXIS OS 12 operating systems and have been tested for compliance with ETSI EN 303 645. Meeting these technical requirements is a general and central prerequisite for obtaining the IT security label, while ETSI TS 103 701 and the BSI's technical guideline TR-03173 serve as test specifications. All AXIS OS-based products launched in 2025 and beyond will automatically undergo a conformity assessment to receive the IT security label.

"As the national cybersecurity authority, the BSI is a recognized and independent institution for IT security in Germany. We are therefore very pleased to be the first manufacturer of video security technology to receive the IT security label for our entire product portfolio," says Tobias Metsch, Regional Director Middle Europe at Axis Communications. "The IT security label clearly shows our customers that they can trust Axis as a reliable partner. With the label, they gain assurance that Axis stands for current IT security requirements as a manufacturer. The BSI verifies this through random sampling and targeted audits. Furthermore, by receiving the IT security label, we are already meeting today's requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act and positioning ourselves consciously as a pioneer for cybersecurity in the video security industry."

„I am delighted to see the IT security label becoming increasingly established," says Sandro Amendola, Head of Standardization, Certification and Testing at the BSI. "We observe growing interest from manufacturers and take the time to advise and guide each one through the process – whether the label is applied for one product or 200. Every single IT security label we issue increases transparency regarding IT security on the market."
