As a system manufacturer with over 40 years of experience, WAGNER specialises in fire protection solutions for process-sensitive areas and areas with high asset concentrations. It has its finger on the pulse with its OxyReduct® active oxygen reduction technology: act, don’t react. The proactive system kicks in before a fire can develop, thus preventing fire-induced losses of goods as well as interruptions or downtime that pose a risk to business operations. The OxyReduct® technology is based on the ingenious approach of not letting a fire break out in the first place. To achieve this, the oxygen content in the area to be protected is permanently lowered below the ignition threshold of the materials predominately housed there and maintained at this level in a controlled manner. An on-site physical filtration process is used to generate the nitrogen required for the oxygen reduction from the ambient air as needed.

A further development of the successful oxygen-reduction system for fire prevention is called OxyReduct® P-Line. It combines the principle of efficient, local nitrogen generation with a standardised structure, which can be extended if the protected area is expanded at a later stage. The operator receives a readily adaptable fire protection solution which actively minimises the risk of fire from the very outset. The OxyReduct® P-Line can be cascaded to save space, allowing it to produce the volume of nitrogen required for the protected room concerned. It provides protection against loss of goods and investments caused by fire and against interruptions or failures which put operations at risk, especially in areas where assets and sensitive processes are concentrated. The needs-based nitrogen generation and custom-designed protection levels offer another decisive advantage if the room is put to a different use or structural alterations are planned since they can be flexibly adapted to any change in requirements.

Within the scope of the holistic fire protection solution, the V-line has to be connected to the TTITANUS® early fire detection system. The air sampling smoke detectors in the TITANUS® range enable the earliest possible detection of incipient fires without false alarms, thereby providing a decisive head start when it comes to introducing countermeasures. This makes it possible to prevent contamination in the room to be protected because of smoke or unsuitable extinguishing agents.

When using the OxyReduct® fire prevention technology, protecting people, goods and valuables plus preventing interruptions to operational processes have the highest priority. More than 800 systems have already been installed worldwide. Areas with a high concentration of values, highly sensitive and irretrievable protected goods, or where a high fire load generally prevails, require a fire protection solution that takes this high need for protection into account. Such areas are indeed protected by legal guidelines that form the basis for fire protection concepts. However, this protection is only a basic safeguard. Further risks can be covered by appropriate insurance protection. However, this only compensates for the fire risk itself to a limited extent. Holistic fire protection goes a decisive step further and, in addition to the individual risks in the specific areas, also considers the customer's protection goals. Based on such an individual risk analysis and the defined protection goals of the operators, holistic fire protection solutions can be developed. In this way, the values in these areas are fully protected against fires and possible consequential damage.
Water-based extinguishing systems are often not a suitable solution for many areas of application. Although they are well suited to contain fires due to their high heat absorption capacity. However, where particularly sensitive assets are stored and need to be protected, the damage caused by extinguishing is often greater than the fire damage itself. Firefighting systems using extinguishing gases have proven to be an alternative. They stop incipient fires quickly and reliably without leaving damage or residues on buildings and goods.

Effective extinguishing without consequential damage
When using gas extinguishing systems to fight fires, an early fire detection system forms the basis of a holistic solution. The sooner a fire is detected in its early stages, the faster appropriate countermeasures can be initiated.
Gas extinguishing systems work on the principle that they remove the basis for a fire to spread further: Either the extinguishing gases smother the source of the fire by displacing oxygen from its environment with unliquefied inert gases or carbon dioxide. Or they extract the necessary heat energy from the fire. This heat extraction is done with a chemical extinguishing gas FK-5-1-12. The clear advantage of such a system is that in the event of a fire, further spread of the fire is prevented at a very early stage. The risk of consequential fire damage is reduced, and goods and valuables are effectively protected from damage caused by fire, extinguishing agents or smoke contamination. This type of fire protection is also environmental protection at the same time, as environmental pollution caused by the disposal of extinguishing agents and fire aftermath products is prevented.

The earliest possible fire detection and reporting form the basis of holistic fire protection solutions. Even a small defect in an electrical device in the protected area can cause a smoldering fire. This can produce pyrolysis products and smoke, which damage goods and merchandise in the protected area and thus cause high damage. WAGNER therefore relies on the TITANUS® early fire detection system so that effective countermeasures can be initiated as early as possible in the event of a fire.
The aspirating smoke detectors essentially consist of a basic unit with fan and detector modules as well as a connected pipe system with aspiration openings. In accordance with DIN VDE 0833-2, each aspiration opening is assigned the same monitoring range as a point-type smoke detector. At the same time, TITANUS® is up to 2,000 times more sensitive than a conventional smoke detector and thus enables a valuable time advantage in searching for and eliminating the cause of the fire. The patented LOGIC-SENS signal processing system works in such a way that it compares the signal characteristics of air samples taken with known fire patterns and reliably screens out deception scenarios, even in difficult application areas. The aspirating smoke detectors are always mounted centrally in an easily accessible location. This reduces the installation and maintenance effort.

The range of fire protection solutions offered by WAGNER includes the WinGuard risk management system. This enhances safety, depicts various hazard situations and sets out specific actions for dealing with situations. As a central operating and control unit, all incidents are logged, managed and visualised in WinGuard. Incidents and notifications are fully recorded as they occur and measures can be managed in event workflows and implemented in a targeted fashion.

To enable procedures for eliminating risks to all be coordinated in a suitable order, it also makes sense to incorporate other safety and security systems such as burglar alarm, video surveillance, fire alarm and access control systems as well as control units for technical installations into a joint risk management system. WinGuard makes this possible. After all, in the event of a fire, an intrusion or the breakdown of technical systems seconds are often crucial when it comes to the progress and outcome of the incident.

In order to be well prepared for emergencies, all risk situations need to have been considered in advance and precise control actions determined. WinGuard integrates solutions from different manufacturers – from the safety, security, property and communication technology to the IT infrastructure – into one standardised user interface. As a result, users only need to learn one programme, which they can then use as a central interface for monitoring and managing all systems and handling all notifications. Because the system is so easy to use, the risk of operator errors is minimised – even in hectic situations. All events such as status changes, notifications and user entries are consistently recorded. Data can be analysed and exported in real time. Additional attachments, such as video recordings, e-mails and other files, can be added to the system.
